Books & Coffee: April 1 – 7 + TBR

Anyone else find it oddly satisfying when the first of the month falls on a Monday?? I’m reading to kick off a new week and month with some awesome books!

This month I’ve decided to take a new approach to TBR’s. Instead of making a big list of everything I’d like to get to, I picked 4 books to prioritize each week – 1 physical book, 1 library book, 1 ebook, and 1 audiobook.

Readathons

1. O.W.L.s Magical Readathon: April 1 – 31

It’s time for my favorite readathon of the year!! The Magical Readathon was created by Book Roast and this round she went SO above and beyond! There are new prompts, challenges, and an entire booklet of wizarding careers to pursue. Check out G’s announcement post and the readathon’s Twitter page for all the info! I posted my own TBR for the readathon here!

2. Creature Feature Readathon: April 1- 31

This readathon was created by Nikki from the Nocturnal Bookworm. This readathon has a bingo card full of fun prompts – you can check out all the prompts on the Twitter page here!

New Releases

Two of my most anticipated books of the season are being released this week!!

1. Wicked Saints by Emily A. Duncan

I’m SO excited for this book!! This is a dark gothic story about a girl who can talk to gods, a prince, war, and a romance.

2. You’d Be Mine by Erin Hahn

This is a YA, contemporary romance about two country music artists.

3. The Girl He Used to Know by Tracey Garvis Graves

This is second chance romance about two social awkward introverts. This book is definitely on my radar – second chance romances are my favorite.

4. The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman

This is supposed to be a cross between Stranger Things and The Raven Boys. I don’t know anything more.

Reading Update + TBR!

Recently Finished

1. Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

This was a re-read I did so I can pick the sequel this month. My rating stayed the same as my first read. But a full review with all my thoughts is coming this Wednesday!

2. Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I got this arc from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This was my first book from Jenn Bennett and it was a cute YA romance. My full review will be posted on Thursday! This is being released on April 16th!

3. A Heart in a Body in the World by Deb Caletti ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

So I accidentally stayed up until midnight on a work night (I’m usually asleep by 9:30 because I’m secretly an old lady) and finished this beauty. And I cried my eyes out. This book is so important and beautiful and heartbreaking. My full review will come later this week!

Currently Reading/What’s Next

In April I’m testing out a new TBR approach – I’m setting weekly TBR’s rather than monthly. I tend to lose track of my TBR goals as the month goes so hopefully this will keep me more on track! Here’s this week’s goals!

1. A Study in Charlotte (Charlotte Holmes #1) by Brittany Cavallaro

This is my first book for the Magical readathon! This is for the Ancient Runes prompt – a retelling. It’s a YA, gender bent Sherlock Holmes retelling. This has been on my radar for awhile – I’ve heard really good things about this series.

2. The Humans by Matt Haig

I have this on loan from the library. I’ve heard nothing but great things about this book! It’s about an alien that comes to earth and goes undercover because humans have discovered a technology they’re not ready for.

3. The Murder on the Links (Hercule Poirot #2) by Agatha Christie

This is book 2 for the Magical readathon – History of Magic which is a book published more than 10 years ago. It’s my goal to read my way through the Hercule Poirot series and it’s finally time to pick up book 2!

4. Vicious (Sinners of Saint #1) by L.J. Shen

I actually got this ebook from Netgalley but it’s only available for another 3 days. So this is the first thing I’m picking up this week! It’s the first book in a New Adult romance series that I’ve been dying to get to.

What are you reading this week?? Are you participating in the Magical readathon?

  1. I’m also doing the Magical Readathon! I started my first book this morning, Bleaker House for the Care of Magical Creatures prompt. I didn’t think to pick an Agatha Christie for History of Magic! I really like her books (I prefer Miss Marple to Poirot though). Enjoy!
