Here are 10 books I think would make perfect winter reads!
Some of these are more holiday themed and some just give me winter vibes! So hopefully there’s a little something for everyone on this list 😊
This book not only set during winter but also in the mountains of Alaska. This book has a lot to with the winter climate and snow since the male MC works on the search and rescue team. While this book is classified as a Christmas/holiday romance it’s pretty light on the holiday themes. It’s definitely one you could read later in winter and not feel like you’re reading out of season. Also the slow burn, romantic tension in this was perfection.
This is my favorite Christmas romance! It’s has tons of holiday themes – decorating, baking, etc – and is the perfect book for December. It has a forced proximity trope and grouchy male MC with a secret heart of gold. Which is pretty much everything I love in a romance.
This isn’t overtly winter-y but it’s a really dark, intense story that just gives me all the winter vibes. My full review is posted here but in short this is a dark, atmospheric, YA fantasy retelling of the 12 Dancing Princesses.
4. An Unwanted Guest by Shari Lapena ⭐⭐⭐.5
This book is SO wintery! It’s a classic-feeling mystery that takes place at a secluded cabin during a massive blizzard. This is the perfect story to curl up with during the winter. Plus this final twist was everything in my opinion.
5. The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is another Alaskan romance! This one technically takes place during late fall I believe but it definitely gives tons of cozy vibes. This is a great enemies to lovers romance (light on the enemies portion!) with some harder hitting themes.
6. 10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston ⭐⭐⭐.5
This is another perfect, festive December read! It’s a super fluffy YA romance about a teenage girl who breaks up with her boyfriend right before the holidays. To make her feel better, her extended family sets her up on 10 blind dates leading up to NYE. This is just a super fun, cotton-candy-sweet romance that I completely devoured. If you want a holiday story you can read in 1 day, this would be perfect!
7. The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley ⭐⭐⭐.5
This book reminds me a lot of An Unwanted Guest. Like in that book, this is takes place at an isolated resort during a major blizzard. A group of long time friends is there for their annual holiday vacation but this year, things take a dark turn. This was another super classic feeling mystery that I absolutely adored.
Another classic-esque mystery! I apparently have a theme. This is a really fun, Victorian mystery series following a super intelligent, strong female MC. Mysteries, especially historical ones, feel like very cozy reads to me, so this is a series I tend to reach for during the cold months.
The last genre I tend to favor in winter is fantasy. This is a YA fantasy series about a world with 3 castes – humans, demons, and hybrids. Book 1 follows the female lead who is taken from her home to serve as a concubine for the evil demon king. This series is dark and covers some really heavy topics – which feels like it suits these dark, cold months.
Like with Girls and Paper and Fire, this is a YA fantasy that I originally read during the winter (which might be why it’s on this list haha). This a standalone about a young girl who defends a living library. I also have a full, in depth review posted here!
