2020 Releases: January – February

It’s almost 2020!! Here’s are some new releases kicking off the new year

TenThousandDoors

In 2020 I’m trying to be more conscientious about the books I’m adding to my TBR. In 2019, I ended up with a lot of new releases and ARCs on my shelf that I lost interest in because I got caught up in the hype. So (hopefully) these posts are a little shorter than this past year.

Here are all the books being released in January and February 2020 that are currently on my radar!

I will try to keep these synopsis as short and sweet as possible! Goodreads pages are linked for them all!

January

January is a solid release month! Some of my most anticipated releases are being released right away in 2020 ♥

January 1st

NotHowItEnds

1. This is Not How it Ends by Rochelle B. Weinstein

This sounds like an intense love triangle story and early reviews say is really emotional. It’s an adult romance following a woman torn between the man she thought she would one day marry and a supportive single father.

January 7th

1. You Were There Too by Colleen Oakley

This is an adult romance following a woman who has been dreaming about the same man since she was a teenager. When her and her husband move to a new small town, she comes face to face with the man from her dreams.

2. Every Other Weekend by Abigail Johnson

This is a YA contemporary about two teens who spend every weekend in the same apartment complex and help each other through difficult life changes.

3. Jane Anonymous by Laurie Faria Stolarz

This sounds like a hard hitting YA, contemporary following a teenage girl working through her mysterious kidnapping three months earlier.

4. Loveboat, Taipei by Abigail Hing Wen

This follows an 18 year old who’s parents send her to a boarding school in Taipei. But it turns out the school may be Ever’s opportunity to break free of her parents strict rules.

January 14th

1. Love Her or Lose Her (Hot and Hammered #2) by Tessa Bailey

One of my most anticipated sequels of the year! This is the second book in an adult romance series and follows a couple trying to save their failing marriage.

2. The Better Liar by Tanen Jones

This is an adult thriller that follows an woman who was estranged from her sister when she passed away. Now she must pretend that her sister is still alive in order to received the inheritance her father left them.

3. Credence by Penelope Douglas

Penelope Douglas writes some amazing taboo romances! This one is about an 18 year old girl who goes to live with her father’s step brother and his 2 sons in an isolated region of the mountains.

4. Dark and Deepest Red by Anna Marie McLemore

This is a historical, YA, magical realism novel. It follows a dancing sickness in the 1500s and what one family had to sacrifice to stop it. Centuries later, a girl finds a pair of red shoes that force her to dance. Something about this synopsis is just so intriguing to me!

January 21st

1. The Hand on the Wall (Truly Devious #3) by Maureen Johnson

This is the third and final book in the Truly Devious series and it’s one of my most anticipated releases of the entire year! This series follows a teen girl who is obsessed with solving a kidnapping case that occurred at her elite boarding school many years ago.

2. Tweet Cute by Emma Lord

This is a YA contemporary that follows to teens who work at rival restaurants and start a Twitter war that turns viral. While they battle it out on the internet, they’re falling for each other in real life.

3. Layoverland by Gabby Noone

This sounds like a weirdly morbid but sweet YA rom-com that follows a teenage girl who dies in car accident. She’s stuck in purgatory helping others find out why they aren’t able to move on. But her first case is helping the guy who caused her accident.

January 28th

1. The Look-Alike by Erica Spindler

This is a psychological thriller about a woman who returns to her childhood home to confront her dark past. She becomes convinced that she was the target of a murder years ago, and that the killer is out to finish what they started. But are her suspicions real or is she suffering from the same delusions that controlled her mother?

2. The Other People by C.J. Tudor

I’ve heard really good things about this author I’m excited to check out this new release! This is another thriller, this one following a father is certain he saw his daughters face in the back of a car on the night she disappeared. Everyone else believes she is dead, but the father continues to search for the beat up car and his daughter.

January 30th

TwoLivesOfLydiaBird

1. The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver

Last but not least for January! This is an adult contemporary, romance following a woman who recently lost her husband in a car accident. But she finds herself being pulled back and forth between 2 lives – one where her husband is still alive.

February

February is significantly slower for releases for me! There are some huge sequels and YA fantasy releases coming out this month that you won’t see on this list so definitely check out the Goodreads list for this month if you’re looking for those!

February 4th

1. The Worst Best Man by Mia Sosa

This is an enemies to lovers romance between a wedding planner and her ex-fiancé’s best friend. This is my favorite trope so I’m here for it.

2. Upright Women Wanted by Sarah Gailey

This is an adult fiction about a wild-west-esque future America “full of bandits, fascists, and queer librarian spies on horseback”.

3. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

This was technically released last year in the UK but it’s finally being released in the US this month! It’s a YA mystery/thriller about a teenage girl inspecting the “closed” murder case of her classmate who was supposedly killed by her boyfriend.

4. Foul is Fair by Hannah Capin

First – I absolutely hate this cover… But this synopsis is everything. This is a revenge story about a teenage girl who plots to take down the boys who targeted her. The tag line for this is pure gold: “Golden boys beware: something wicked this way comes”

5. Yes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli & Aisha Saeed

The authors of this are the main reason this is on this list. This is a contemporary romance following 2 teens who are going door to door for a political campaign. I normally stay away from political books but I love romance and these authors so hopefully I love this too!

February 11th

1. Dead to Her by Sarah Pinborough

Sarah Pinborough is really well loved thriller author that I’ve been sleeping on. But 2020 is the year! This is a domestic thriller about murderous trophy wives. This is another book with tagline perfection: Being the second wife can be murder

2. The Unspoken Name by A.K. Larkwood

This follows a young girl who is destined to a be a sacrifice but finds a way to escape. “But Csorwe will soon learn – gods remember, and if you live long enough, all debts come due.” (I feel like authors/publishers are really stepping up their Goodreads synopses game this year)

February 18th

1. The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James

This is the follow up to The Broken Girl and another historical thriller. This takes place in dual timeline at the same hotel – 35 years ago when the night clerk vanished and today when her niece is trying to discover what really happened.

2. The Life Below (The Final Six #2) by Alexandra Monir

This is the sequel to The Final Six so I can’t go into detail on the plot for this one. But this series follows a group of teens who are training to be sent into space since Earth is becoming inhabitable. But there are dark secrets behind the mission!

3. The Other Mrs. Mary Kubica

Another domestic thriller! (Who’s surprised lol). This follows a couple who recently moved into a new home and their neighbor turns up dead. And the town believes the new comers may be involved.

February 25th

ShadowsBetweenUs

1. The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller

Last anticipated release for these 2 months! This is a YA fantasy with one of my absolute favorite fantasy plots! The main character must woo and marry the king in order to overthrow him. Love it.
