It’s time for my first readathon of the month!
The backlist readathon was created by and is hosted by a whole slew of Booktubers! Here’s a link to one of the announcement videos if you’re interested in learning more. The gist of it is:
- Read backlist titles (the hosts defined it as any book released before 2020 but I’m reading books still in publication that aren’t the author’s latest release)
- The readathon runs from March 9th – March 15th
- There are 6 reading challenges
Here are the challenges and what I hope to read!
1. Shortest Title: Moon Called by Patricia Briggs
The mass market paperback copy of this is less than 300 pages. Which is definitely one of the shorter books on my TBR. This is a paranormal fantasy about werewolves and that’s literally all I know. I know this author and series are well loved though and I’m excited to give it a shot!
2. Intimidates You: Escaping From Houdini (Hunting Prince Dracula #3) by Kerri Maniscalco
This book is just so long 😅 I love this series and really want to jump back into it, but I also know the second book is most peoples favorite so I don’t want to be disappointed.
3. Recommended by Someone Else: The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh
The theme of this TBR is paranormal 😅 This book was getting some really terrible reviews so I originally had no interest in picking it up. But Riley Marie hyped this one (and I’m have no power to resist her recommendations) so I’m giving this a shot.
4. Most Excited For: The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden
This is probably the book I will start the readathon with because I’m so excited to get back to this world! I loved book 1 and was really sad that I couldn’t fit this into February’s TBR. So this one is for sure happening.
5. Diverse: Magic For Liars by Sarah Gailey
I’m not actually certain this book is diverse but Sarah Gailey is a queer author who writes a lot of queer characters so I’m assuming this will have LGBTQ rep. However I could be 100% wrong. I know absolutely nothing about this book other than it was compared to The Magicians and I read no further and bought it.
6. Blue on Cover: Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews OR Archangel’s Blade by Nalini Singh
Oh look more paranormal romance! 😅 Can you tell I’m on a kick right now? Not sure which of these I’ll be in the mood for but they’re both blue-ish.
Are you participating in this readathon?? Let me know what you’re planning to read!

I loved Escaping from Houdini! It’s very much centered around the relationship more than the mystery, but if that’s not a problem then you might really enjoy it!

I love romance so I definitely don’t mind that at all 😍😍

And the ending, it’s a real trip! I choked so many times with how it ended. Plus, the ending isn’t even the original ending. Apparently, the arc of Escaping Houdini has an entirely different ending compared to the finished copy!

Oh god, I hope you end up liking it! I don’t want to be one of those people who hypes a book for someone and then their hopes get crushed!

Hahaha! I feel like I’ve been that person so much lately 😅 I keep hyping up all my 5 star reads this year then finding out everyone else was disappointed by it 🙈

I know that feeling! I did that so much with The Stalking Jack the Ripper Quartet and a lot of them were disappointed by the first book. I felt so bad! 🙊

[…] My original TBR …. didn’t happen 😅 While I usually enjoy sticking to a schedule/list, I got fell into a huge SJM binge after House of Earth and Blood and just couldn’t stop. Then I got into this weird mood where I just wanted to read all the books all at once. So everything fell apart real fast. […]
