1. Soft on Soft by Mina Waheed ⭐⭐⭐

This was my first read of the month and it was a super sweet and soft queer romance. While this was absolutely adorable, it definitely wasn’t a new favorite. I just personally prefer my romances more angsty and plot driven. If you’re looking for a super sweet, non-smutty romance though with tons of amazing representation, definitely check this novella out!

2. Fumbled by Alexa Martin ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I finally picked up this sequel! And I ended up absolutely loving it. Poppy is definitely a new favorite character. She was so strong and steadfast in what she wanted out life and I loved her snark and humor. I bought the next book right away because I want to continue on asap!

3. Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

NEW FAVORITE BOOK! Guys I don’t even know how to describe or summarize how much this book impacted me. This is a beautiful and absolutely heartbreaking story that follows 2 family lineages through hundreds of years as they experience slavery and it’s effects. Please read this.

4. Lock Every Door by Riley Sager ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5

This may have been a 5 star read if I hadn’t just read Homegoing prior to this. But this is hands down a new favorite thriller of mine! This is definitely not a thriller that everyone will love – although I think I could say that about all thrillers. But this reveal was so good in my opinion!! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I read this. I love everything Riley Sager writes.

5. Learn My Lesson (Wicked Villains #2) by Katee Robert ⭐⭐⭐.5

Everyone seems to love this sequel more than book one but I’m apparently the odd one out. I still really enjoyed this sequel but I thought it was overly repetitive and I definitely started getting annoyed at the characters around the half way point. This series is ultra-steamy so if you’re looking for some top notch smutty reads, this is your author!

6. Girls of Storm and Shadow (Girls of Paper and Fire #2) by Natasha Ngan ⭐⭐⭐.5

I am ridiculously proud of myself for finally reading this sequel 😅 This was one of the first ARCs I received (over a year ago) and one of the unread books I’ve had sitting on my shelves the longest… I was so apprehensive about this sequel that I psyched myself out of reading it. While I didn’t love this on the same level as book 1, I still really enjoyed this continuation! It’s definitely super political and action packed. I’m excited for the conclusion next year!

7. It Takes Two to Tumble (The Sedgwicks #2) by Cat Sebastian ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is a M/M historical romance that warmed my damn soul. I can’t even handle how absolutely adorable this romance was. I was swooning the entire way through. I loved how this author touched on the societal pressures of this time but still kept this book hopeful and romantic. I wanted the world for these two characters! Definitely recommend this series!

8. We Should All be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is a SUPER short novella that was adapted from the author’s TED talk on feminism. While I didn’t think this book touched on anything new or groundbreaking, I just love the way the author discusses feminism. She has such a knack for making everything feel conversational and digestible. Definitely a must read!

9. A Good Girls Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Omg this is probably going to be one of the biggest surprises of the year. I loved this book!! This is hands down my new favorite mystery novel. I loved everything about this – the characters, the pacing, the crazy twists and turns. Also the audiobook is absolutely fantastic so if you get the chance, definitely check this book out that way!

10. Bunny by Mona Awad ⭐⭐⭐

This is the strangest book I’ve ever read… I honestly still don’t even know how to review it. Reading the book was the equivalent of experiencing a lucid fever dream. If you like weird shit, check this out.

11. A Gentleman Never Keeps Score (The Sedgwicks #2) by Cat Sebastian ⭐⭐⭐.5

I didn’t love this sequel quite as much as the first book but it was still super fun and sweet. I love Cat Sebastian’s writing and this series has been so much fun to binge. My biggest issue with this installment was that I just didn’t connect to the characters as much. Sadly they just felt a little flat.

12. Real Men Knit by Kwana Jackson ⭐⭐.5

Oof… I won’t lie for the majority of this book I thought all the really low ratings floating around were too harsh. This wasn’t going to be a new favorite by any means but it was sitting at a solid 3 star. But that ending… why was all of the plot smashed into the last 30 minutes of this book? Why did the hero insist on call the heroine “girl” until the very last page despite her pleads for him to stop? Why was the ending the single most cringe-worthy thing I’ve ever read?

13. Home Before Dark by Riley Sager ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My new favorite Riley Sager book!! This thriller was so dang creepy! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading this – and I read the last 300 pages in one go because I just couldn’t put it down. If you’re a fan of classic horror movies, this book has all of those vibes! Highly recommend.

14. The Chase (Briar U #1) by Elle Kennedy ⭐⭐.5

I’ve had this book on my TBR forever so I’m really glad I finally got to it! Unfortunately it was a big ‘ol disappointment.. The main characters drove me crazy and while their sexual chemistry was great, their relationship felt so surface level. For the life of me I couldn’t figure out why they wanted to be together beyond thinking the other was hot… Plus all the girl hate, inflated egos, and privilege had me ready to bash my head in…

What was the best book you read this month??
