July TBR + Readathons

Holy cow it’s July…

Anyone else hardcore freaking out over the fact that it’s somehow July already? Just me?

This month I’m low key participating in the Pop Culture Readathon hosted by Whitney from BookWhitMe.

This readathon is absolutely amazing! There are 4 bingo boards full of prompts inspired by 90’s movies 😍😍😍 It’s awesome, please check their Twitter page out!

My attention has been all over the place lately though so I’ve struggled sticking to a TBR. I’m also desperately trying to work through ARCs (both late and upcoming ones) so I didn’t want to set anything too strict and then totally botch it – you know, like last month 😅

So instead I made a TBR jar with all the prompts I wanted to do/liked and I’m just going to pull them throughout the month!

I’m also hoping to participate in the 48 hour Becca’s BookoplAthon on July 11-12! This readathon is based on Becca’s monthly TBR game and it just seems like a really fun way to spend a summer weekend!

Readathons

Becca’s BookoplAthon Roll 1: Paranormal or Magical Realism

1. This Time Tomorrow (Phenomenal Fates #2) by Tessa Bailey

I just got this sequel in the mail and I want to start it immediately. I love Tessa Bailey’s romances and I always fly through them. So I figured this would be a perfect readathon read. This is a romance between and vampire and vampire hunter we met in book 1, Reborn Yesterday.

Pop Culture Readathon

2. Sapphic Romance: The Lady’s Guide to Celestial Mechanics (Feminine Pursuits #1) by Olivia Waite

My first pick was a book with a sapphic romance. Which is perfect because I really need to read this since the sequel is coming out soon and I have an ARC copy. This is a F/F historical romance that I’ve heard amazing things about! I’m really excited for it.

ARCs

I have 10 July ARCs. That’s not including the 25ish late ARCs I have… If you want more details on my ARC progress, I do a monthly update on what I read, what I acquired, and what I have left!

Here are just 5 upcoming releases I’m most excited about and definitely getting to this month.

3. Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust

This has been on approximately 900 TBRs but it’s finally releasing the first Tuesday of July! So it’s high time I finally got to this YA fantasy.

4. Burn Our Bodies Down by Rory Power

Another most anticipated release of the year! I can’t wait to see what this author does with their sophomore novel. I’m expecting another weird, ominous, and captivating story.

5. Dear Emmie Blue by Lia Louis

I haven’t talked about this book much but I have high hopes for this new adult contemporary romance! It’s about a woman who’s life is thrown off balance when the relationship she thought was beginning doesn’t go the way she’d planned.

6. Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson

I’m so excited for this new witchy fantasy! It sounds like a super feminist story about young woman discovering her power to overthrow their repressive society.

7. Mayhem by Estelle Laure

Not only am I crazy excited for this upcoming release, but this is my first ever physical ARC 😭❤️ This is feminist mashup up of The Lost Boys and The Craft set in 1980’s California. Yes please.

2020 Goals

I have some specific reading goals for 2020 that I’m trying to keep up with. Here’s what I hope to read for some of those challenges!

BOTM

8. The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon

I was so excited for this June release but I just haven’t had a chance to pick it up. So it’s happening this month! This is an adult romance about a group of women who become friends when they discover they were dating the same guy. They just swore off men for 6 months when the heroine meets the man of her dreams.

Out Of My Comfort Zone

9. Riot Baby by Tochi Onyebuchi

I picked this up last month and definitely want to read this right away! It’s a super short adult sci-fi novel about “love, fury, and the black American experience.” Science Fiction is not a genre I reach for often but I’ve heard amazing things about this so I’m hoping I love it!

Series Continuations

Not sure which or how many of these I’ll pick up, but these are the books that are currently calling to me.

Summer TBR

I also have 10 books on my summer TBR that I definitely need to focus on! Again, I’m not sure which ones I’ll pick up (some of them are already on this TBR for other things) so definitely check out my Goal Update at the end of the month to see what I ended up reading!

That’s it! It’s a pretty lose TBR this month. I’ve been feeling a little all over the place lately so I’m trying to not put too much pressure on a set TBR. Instead just focusing on my goals and ARCs.

Let me know what you’re planning to read this month in the comments below!!
