September Reading Plans + TBR

It’s almost fall!!

I wanted to do a quick (jk this post is long AF) post about my September reading plans – because it’s going to be a chaotic reading month 😅

I’m participating in 3 month long readathons, have 8 ARCs releasing this month, 2 buddy reads, and book club picks. On top of that I’m trying to get books read in preparation for October recommendations and posts as well as get ahead on ARCs (the never ending struggle…).

All while still trying to giving myself space to read some things just for the heck of it.

So I here’s what I’m doing:

Readathons

1. Adventures Through Wonderland Readathon

My TBR is coming on Wednesday!

2. Becca’s Bookoplathon

My TBR is coming Tuesday!

3. Monsterathon

I’m on Team Haunts and am only setting a 4 book TBR for the 4 team challenges. You can check out all the challenges, teams, and point breakdowns on their Twitter page!

I’m going to keep this super brief because I talk about each of these in more detail down below!

1. By a BIPOC Author: Catherine House by Elisabeth Thomas

2. Friend Pick: The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune

3. Mystery Book: One by One by Ruth Ware

4. Comfort Read: Well Played (Well Met #2) by Jen Deluca

Buddy Reads & Book Club Picks

I’m also planning to participated in the Brown Girl Book Club hosted by Jessica Nicole Dickerson as well as Currently Reading hosted by Ali Dunn. But their monthly picks haven’t been announced quite yet!

1. Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas

This come out on the 1st and I’m buddy reading this with Autumn from Chapter Malliumpkin! I’ve had my copy preordered for ages and I’m so excited to finally read it! This is an own voices, queer, Latinx fantasy following 2 cousins who accidentally raise the town bad boy from the dead. This is going to be the perfect book to kick off the fall season!

2. Catherine House by Elisabeth Thomas

This is the September pick for the Literally Dead Book Club hosted by Kayla from Books and Lala. Literally all I know about this book is that it’s a gothic, dark academia story that’s been getting some less than stellar reviews. But I’m still insanely excited to read it!

3. Potkin and Stubbs by Sophie Green

This is the September pick for Middle Grade Monthly hosted by Jade and Gavin. This is another one I know nothing about beyond it’s a middle grade mystery with paranormal elements.

4. The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune

I’m budding reading this with the Bookish Ladies Club on Instagram. Every month they choose a book and create a big group chat on IG that you can join. So definitely check out their Facebook page or Instagram if you’re interested in joining future reads!

This is an adult, whimsical fantasy that has been on my TBR since it was announced. But for some reason I keep putting it off for the illusive “perfect time”. But now that I’m committed to a buddy reads, it’s definitely happening and I can’t wait! I’ve heard literally nothing but rave reviews for this.

ARCs

1. One by One by Ruth Ware

I’m so excited for this new release by one of my favorite mystery/thriller authors!! This is actually the Literally Dead Book Club pick for October as well, so I’m getting a head start on that. This is an isolated thriller that follows a group of people trapped at a resort after an avalanche.

2. Tools of Engagement (Hot and Hammered #3) by Tessa Bailey

This is the final book in this steamy romance trilogy! It follows Bethany in an enemies to lovers romance and I’m so ready for this. Definitely a 5 star prediction!

3. A Rogue of One’s Own (League of Extraordinary Women #2) by Evie Dunmore

This is the sequel to Bringing Down the Duke which I finally read earlier this month! This follows a group of women who are the first female students at Oxford. I loved book 1 so hopefully I love this one just as much!

4. The Roommate by Rosie Danan

This is a steamy romance I heard about through other reviewers on Bookstagram. It’s follows a heroine who moves across the state for a guy only to find herself alone. So she moves in with a new roommate and sparks fly.

5. Legendborn by Tracy Deonn

This is a YA fantasy that is a twist on the classic Merlin tale. I’m SO excited to finally dive into this one!

6. Well Played (Well Met #2) by Jen DeLuca

This is another much anticipated romance sequel! This is a fun rom-com that follows a group of people who participate in a local Renn Faire.

7. Ties That Tether by Jane Igharo

Alright so I’ll be honest.. I’m no longer sure if I will be picking this one up. After talking to a fellow reviewer I learned that this book contains a traumatic pregnancy and near loss of a pregnancy which are huge triggers for me. Pregnancy isn’t mentioned anywhere in the synopsis so I didn’t realize that would be in here when I requested it. I’m on the fence because I was really excited about this book… I’m just not sure if it’s something I will be able to handle.

8. When the Earl Met His Match (Wedded by Scandal #4) by Stacy Reid

This is a new historical romance by an author I’ve been really excited to read from. This follows a man who puts out an ad for a wife. Then starts a pen pal romance with the anonymous woman who responds. I’ve been obsessed with historicals recently so I’m really excited to give this a try!

Alright that’s part 1 of 3 for my September TBR 😅 I’ll be sharing TBRs for the 2 month long readathons in a couple of days! Here’s hoping I have an amazing reading month, because I’ve definitely over-committed myself…

What are you hoping to read in September?? PS – if you ever want to buddy read anything, send me a message here or on Instagram!! I’m always open to buddy reads ❤️

  1. Oh wow I hope you can manage all the readathons/arcs/book clubs!
I’m also participating in Bookoplathon, it was so much fun to play!
I also wanted to particpate in Adventures Through Wonderland, but I didn’t think I could handle two full month readathons haha!

      • Becca and the Books on Youtube does this big bookopoly TBR every month and she created a readathon around it! It’s a bunch of prompts on a board and you roll dice and pick a book that fits the prompt you land on. Luckily the prompts are pretty vague so they’re inclusive to everyone, so I was able to fit books already on my TBR onto it.
