I read 3 holiday romances in December!

I have some mixed feelings about this series overall but I thought this was a fun and festive holiday rom-com.

This follows 2 characters we met in book 1 – I do recommend reading The Tourist Attraction first as it gives a lot of backstory to the main plot in this book. I enjoyed both characters and thought their banter was great. And while their chemistry wasn’t off the charts, it was still a fun, sweet romance that kept me invested the entire way through.

I think what stops me from absolutely falling for this series is it’s tendency to be too much. There’s just a few too many off-the-wall, quirky elements thrown which keeps anything from hitting hard enough. For example in here we have – a loner hero who dresses up pets, a creepy taxidermy restaurant, a Christmas hating Moose, rich people drama, inappropriate snow art, Santa suits, holiday party disasters, car accidents, etc. And with all this stuff thrown in, nothing felt like it got quite enough attention or went as far as I wanted it to. 

Overall I had a good time reading this and thought it was a solid Christmas season read. This series isn’t a new all-time favorite though.

In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren

I loved this. I read this book at the most perfect time and it brought all the holiday vibes and warm fuzzies that I needed.

This follows the main character who is struggling and makes a desperate call to the universe to help her discover what will make her happy. And then she finds herself reliving the same holiday vacation over and over again. I will say the time jumps don’t happen a ton – I definitely thought she would be reliving the weekend far more often. But I actually didn’t hate that.

I liked that we got so much time seeing Mae with her family celebrating the holiday. There were so many cozy festive scenes that put me in the holiday spirit.

I loved the friends to lovers romance. And while this was fade to black, I still thought the main characters had amazing chemistry. I know some people didn’t love that the love interest wasn’t obvious from the being, but I actually thought that was a fun addition!

Besides the romance, I really loved the internal work that we watch the main character go through. I think many 20/30 year olds can relate to feeling stuck the way Mae was. And seeing her break out of self-destructive habits and reflect on her life was really relatable. I thought she was a great, flawed main character.

Overall this was the perfect December, holiday read. And possibly one that I will return to for future Christmas TBRs.

Forever Wild (Wild #2.5) by K.A. Tucker

Oh man I’m not ready to leave these characters behind…

This final novella following Calla and Jonah hit me with all the holiday feels. This takes place a few months after book 2 (you definitely need to read the previous two books before going into this) and follows them while their families visit for the holidays. 

I’ve grown so attached to these characters over the last couple books and I’ve loved seeing their relationships developed. Not only does this series have a great romance, but it fantastic platonic and familial relationships as well. The found family in here is absolutely fantastic and this is definitely a series that will stick with me for a long time. 

The ending of this had me on the verge of tears and I honestly already want to restart from the beginning. I’m already so excited for the spinoff series following Marie!
