Happy December 1st! To celebrate the holidays I’m participating in Blogmas and have 31 days worth of posts coming. ♥
Holy cow, how are we already at the last month of 2018?? I feel like there are so many books I wanted to read this year and never got to… thanks in part to my summer long reading slump. This month I’m planning to keep my TBR small and simple. The holidays are always crazy busy and I don’t want to burn out trying to fit in a ton of books.
But because I have no chill, I’m also planning on (casually) participating in 3 readathons. So I will have specific TBRs for those coming later in the month.
Here are some books I’d like get to in December!
1. Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan
I actually just started this and was completely hooked by page 4. This follows the main character, who is selected to be a Paper Girl – a human girl (the lowest class) who is to be concubine for the demon king. It’s a gay, Asian inspired fantasy; what more could you ask for?!
2. The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand
This has been on my Goodreads TBR shelf for a year now and I finally picked up a copy when it was released in paperback. It’s a, A Christmas Carol retelling so I thought it would be perfect for this time of year.
3. A Christmas Carol
I’m planning to pair this with The Afterlife of Holly Chase. I’ve seen a million movie adaptations (and theater) of this, but I’ve never actually read the original story. Plus one of my goals for next year is to read more classics, so it would be nice to get a head start.
4. The Well of Ascension (Mistborn #2) by Brandon Sanderson
Technically I’ve already started this, but I’m only about 50 pages in. I finished book 1 in November and can’t wait to continue in this series. I don’t want to go into detail about the plot of this since it’s book 2.. But this is an adult, high fantasy series about young thief who learns she has rare powers. And she gets pulled into a plan to overthrow the evil Lord Ruler. This world and magic system is so rich and complex. I highly recommend it if like me you’ve been slacking.
What books are you looking forward to reading this month??

I’ve been wanting to read the mistborn series for the longest time but can’t seem to get past book 1 because it seems so looong. Is it any good?

It’s really good!! Book 1 was definitely a bit of a struggle for me too though, I think I started it 3 times before I finally finished it. The first half is SO much world and character building so it’s kind of slow. But by the half way point it’s all action and twists. I’m only 50 pages into book 2 but I’ve heard the rest of the series is even better 🙂
