2019 Reading Goals

In 2018 the only goal I set was a Goodreads goal of 50 books. And overall I did pretty well with reading diversely in terms of genre. But in 2019 I wanted to set some fun goals and challenges to expand my reading.

Books

1. Goodreads challenge: 70 books

First up, I set my goal to 70 books this year! I finished 69 books last year despite having a massive reading slump from May-August. So I’m hopeful I can meet 70 this year!

2. Reading Women Challenge

I’m so glad I found this reading challenge! It’s hosted by the Reading Women duo and has a total of 24 prompts. Every month I plan to pull 2 prompts from the TBR jar I created and chose 2 books from my TBR to fulfill those challenges. I thought this would a good way to knock out some books that have been sitting on my TBR forever while focusing on reading some amazing women authors.

3. Romanceopoly

This is a year long challenge hosted by the ladies at Under the Covers and Jess from Peace Love Books. There is an awesome game board, mystery challenges, Instagram challenges, and more! I highly recommend checking out the website for this one! I’ve printed off my game board and will be using a die to work my way around the board.

4. Around the Year in 52 Books

This is my third and last year long challenge. This is a Goodreads group challenge that has 52 prompts. As of right now I’m planning to just slowly work my way through this list in order. If I come to prompt that can be filled by a book I read earlier, I’ll fill it in and move on to the next.

5. Backlist Reads

I posted back in December about backlist books I wanted to prioritize in 2019. I have since edited that list slightly after massively unhauling both my physical and Goodreads TBR shelves. But I want to make a series effort to read books I’ve owned and never read. My TBR shelf is out of control and honestly it makes me anxious to look at it.

6. Unhauling and DNF-ing

I’m already pretty ruthless about DNF-ing and unhauling books I’m not longer interested in. But I want to make sure I continue to give myself permission to do so. There are SO many things I want to read, I don’t want to waste time on things I don’t like. So every quarter I’m going to go through my shelves and do an unhaul.

7. Read New Books as They Are Released

I get so hyped for new releases and then I wait to pick them up and the excitement wears off. I want to make sure I’m actually picking up the books I preorder within a timely manner so I don’t lose interest.

8. One Readathon Each Month

I LOVE readathons! So my goal is participate in at least one readathon each month. I already have readathons planned out through March and I’m really excited! In fact, in March I will be co-hosting a readathon – spoiler alert. So definitely watch for that! I’m really excited!

What are some of your reading goals for the month??
