Books & Coffee: January 28 – February 3

Hello! I’m testing out a new Monday morning series. I wanted a place to document what’s happening in the bookish world each week – readathons, new releases, announcements, etc. And have a chance to talk about what I’m currently reading or recently finished.

As always, this isn’t a comprehensive list. These are simply the things on my radar at the moment. Feel free to share anything I missed in the comments section!

Readathons

It’s a pretty slow readathon week.

1. Fairytaleathon

This seems like a really fun readathon! It runs from February 1-10 and has 8 fairytale inspired challenges. Definitely check out their twitter if you’re looking for are readathon to kick off February ♥

New Releases

January and February are huge for new releases this year! First are a few books I’m really excited for this week!

1. King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

This is on everyone’s most anticipated lists, and it is finally here!! I’m so excited to pick this up on release day and will be reading it as soon as I get my hands on it. For those that have been living under a rock, this is the first book in a companion series to the Grishaverse books. This one follows Nikolai (the best character in the original trilogy). That is all I know about the synopsis and honestly that’s all I need. I’m SO hyped for this one.

2. The Cerulean by Amy Ewing

This book has been on my radar for months. The synopsis is so vague but I’m intrigued – and that cover is just stunning. This is story follows a girl on a floating world. She is selected as a sacrifice and thrown from her world and lands in the human world below. I’ve heard pretty mixed things about this but I’m desperate to check it out for myself anyways.

3. If I Only Knew by Corinne Michaels

This is actually out today! Last year I discovered my love for romance and I’ve been picking up as many as I can get my hands on since. This follows a woman who tragically loses her husband and buries her sorrow in her work. After a big promotion, she receives a new assistant, whom she can’t stand. I’m always down for a good enemies to lovers story so I’m excited to get my hands on this one.

4. The Severed Moon: A Year Long Journal of Magic by Leigh Bardugo

This one isn’t technically a book but I’m pumped for it nonetheless. I’m pretty sure I will insta-buy anything Leigh Bardugo releases. This is a journal with quotes from all of Bardugo’s books as well as writing prompts/inspiration at the top of each page. I love journals so this seems like the perfect addition to my collection.

5. Here are a few other big titles being released this week!

Reading Update

Recently Finished

Dreamers

I finished this over the weekend and really enjoyed it! I was so sure this was going to my first 5 star book of the year but sadly that wasn’t the case. While I LOVED the majority of this book, the last 50 pages were a bit disappointing. My full review will be coming on Sunday so I’ll share my full thoughts then! Overall I gave this 4 stars.

thefinalsix

I just finished this on audiobook yesterday and was blown away by how much I loved it! I heard of this for the first time on BooksAndLala’s overly specific recommendations video. For whatever reason I’ve been really drawn to sci-fi recently. This is a YA story following a group of teens drafted for mission to Jupiter’s moon, Europa. Only 6 of them will be chosen for the final mission, so this follows their training/tests at the International Space Training Camp. I was totally surprised by how much I loved this. There’s a little bit of everything in here and it was just really cute and well done. I also desperately need the sequel asap! My review for this one will be coming next week (I’m way behind on posts so this week is booked)!

Currently Reading

WellofAscensionI finally picked this up! I read the first book in the trilogy back in November and fell in love with it. I really wanted to pick up the sequel right away but other books needed to be prioritized so I kept pushing this back. But I’ve read pretty only sci-fi and mystery/thrillers this month so I was craving a good fantasy. So obviously I reached for this. I don’t want to go into detail about the synopsis for this as it spoils book 1. But this is an adult high fantasy about a people who can manipulate metals to give them power. It’s amazing, definitely check it out if you’ve been sleeping on it like me!

Continuing on with my sci-fi obsession, I’m planning to start this on audiobook today. I heard about this in the same video as The Final Six. It follows 3 main characters in 3 different timelines spanning hundreds of years. I’ve seen really good things about this on Goodreads so my hopes are high!

What are you planning to read this week? Are there any new releases you’re excited to pick up? I’d love to hear your bookish plans!
