10 spooky books I have on my TBR!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.
I’ve talked about this in other posts, but I’m a HUGE chicken. My anxiety does not handle fear well. Jump scares and paranormal shit are not for me.
But I’ve slowly discovered a type of spooky that works for me. Here are 10 spooky books I have on my TBR that I really want to read!
1. The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher

This is a new horror novel about a woman who discovers a portal in her uncles home that leads to terrifying and sinister worlds.
2. In the Garden of Spite by Camilla Bruce

This is a historical thriller releasing in January about the world’s prolific female serial killer, Belle Gunness, and the men and events that drove her to murder.
3. Plain Bad Heroines by Emily M. Danforth

This gothic story is releasing later this month! This is a horror comedy surrounding a cursed boarding school in the 1900s.
4. What Big Teeth by Rose Szabo

This YA fantasy doesn’t release until February, but it’s being compared to The Addams Family so it was immediately added to my TBR. It follows a girl who is returning home to her strange, monstrous family after being apart for many years.
5. The Project by Courtney Summers

This is YA thriller following a girl trying to save her sister from a cult. And cults are creepy…
6. Down Comes the Night by Allison Saft

This is a dark, gothic, YA romance that I’m really hyped for. It follows sworn enemies trapped inside of a gothic mansion in the mountains, when sinister things begin to happen.
7. House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland

This is dark, fairytale-like fantasy about a group of sisters who discover they’re not quite human, and inexplicably dangerous.
8. The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins

Rachel Hawkins wrote the Royals series which is a super adorable YA contemporary. This is nothing like that. This is a dark twist on the classic Jane Eyre where Mrs. Rochester won’t stay buried.
9. The Burning Girls by C.J. Tudor

Ever since I finished The Other People, I’ve been desperate to read more from C.J. Tudor. This new thriller releases next January and follows a creepy church with a history of burning girls.
10. Horrid by Katrina Leno

This is actually the only book on this list I own physically! This is YA horror novel about a girl who returns to her mother’s childhood home and finds some dark secrets locked away (literally).
Do you have any spooky books on your TBR? Let me know if we have any in common!!
