A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

This YA mystery not only has a unique format but it has really unique audiobook as well! This is told partly in standard exposition and partly in interviews.

And it’s one of my favorite audiobooks of all time because the interviews have sound effects and voice actors – it’s fantastic!

The Night Swim by Megan Goldin

This another AMAZING audiobook! This book is told in 3 different formats/POVs – one is set in the past leading up to a murder, one is in present day following a podcaster, and the third is actual segments of the podcast.

The podcast elements are really what took this book to a new level. In the audiobook those chapters sound exactly like an actual podcast with intro music and all.

This book is amazing but it’s definitely a heavy read! Trigger warnings for rape, rape culture, sexism, murder, and more.

Evidence of the Affair by Taylor Jenkins Reid

The first TJR book on this list is actually a novella told entirely in letter format.

This follows 2 people who begin writing to each other when they discover their spouses are having an affair. I don’t want to say any more because this story is very short. But Taylor Jenkins Reid is a masterful and squeezes in so much emotion into this tiny book and then punches you with some amazing twists!

The Wicker King K. Ancrum

This book has definitely made it’s rounds in the bookish community and for good reason! What sets this YA contemporary apart is it’s format in the physical book – as the story progresses the pages darken, mirroring the mental state of the main character.

This book discuss friendship, love, mental health, and so much more. K Ancrum is an amazing writer and will leave you a tear-stained mess by the end of this.

Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This last book made the list because I’ve never read another book that did “dual POVs” quite like this. This book is told in alternating chapters following parallel timelines.

This adult contemporary follows a young women who reaches a crossroads in her life – does she choose to reconnect with the man from her past? From there the book splits and in alternating chapters we discover what her life would be like from each decision.

It explores whether or not there’s such a thing as true love and how even our smallest choices can change our lives.
