Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.
Today’s topic is Characters That Remind Me of Myself but I don’t really love that prompt. So I decided to choose a backlist one instead.
1. City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert
I’m so excited to read Gilbert’s newest book coming out this June! This is a historical fiction (not my typical genre) that takes place in the 1940’s and revolves around a young woman discovering what it means to be a woman during that time. This sounds super feminist and I’m ready for it. Also, I’ve read and loved everything else Elizabeth Gilbert has written.
2. Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware
Ruth Ware is a hit or miss author for me, but when it’s a hit, I’m completely obsessed. So I plan to read pretty much anything and everything she releases. This is her newest novel which comes out in September. I haven’t read the synopsis for this because thriller synopses tend to be spoiler-y. But I’m pretty sure this is about a nanny who finds out the child she is watching is actually dead. Ware write some of the most atmospheric books I’ve ever read, so I’m expecting this to creep me the heck out.
3. Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
This a new adult, urban fantasy that is releasing this coming October. And I’m SO excited to dive into a new world of Bardugo’s! I loved the Grisha trilogy but DNF’d the Six of Crown duology so we have a storied past (pun intended). But this is about a young woman tracking secret societies at Yale so I have full faith this will blow me away! Secret societies is a buzzword for me so I don’t need/want to know anything more.
4. Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater
This is one of my most anticipated books of the entire year!! I’ve been waiting for the Ronan series since I finished the Raven Cycle last year. This is a spin-off series that follows Ronan Lynch. I know literally nothing of the plot for this but I want it in my hands immediately. Side note: This cover is heinous.
5. House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
I am complete and utter Maas trash. No shame. I will read forever read anything this woman releases. This is a new adult, Fae (obviously) fantasy and is supposed to release in January of next year. I know NOTHING about the plot of this. One thing I’ve learned about Maas’s books is the that plot alters drastically throughout the series. So I really don’t want any expectations going into this.
6. Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Taylor Jenkins Reid is my all-time favorite author. Her books are completely addicting and I have fallen in love with all of them. This one follows a musician Daisy in the last 60’s as she joins the band The Six. I’ve heard such amazing things about this and I can’t believe I haven’t read this yet.
7. Skyward by Brandon Sanderson
I absolutely loved Warbreaker and The Final Empire (I also need to finish this series). This is a YA, sci-fi of his that I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews for. This is another author I have grand plans for – hopefully I one day I can actually make my way through all of his books.
8. Verity by Colleen Hoover
Last year I read my first Colleen Hoover novel – All Your Perfects – and I feel in love. This is a romance thriller (2 of my favorite things) so I have a feeling I will love this too. I’ve had this from Kindle Unlimited for a long hot minute so I need to read this asap.
9. Swipe Right for Murder by Derek Milman
Derek Milman’s debut novel, Scream All Night, made my favorite of 2018 list. I’m so desperate to read this next book. Milman blew me away with his mix of hard-hitting contemporary and humor. This follows Aidan who gets swept into epic misadventure after a one night stand. This books sounds crazy intense and action packed. Another one of my most anticipated books of the year and I’m itching to get my hands on a copy.
10. Top Secret by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy
I just read the last series these 2 authors wrote together and it was everything. Like that one, this is a new adult, M/M romance. But rather than hockey, this follows to fraternity brothers who fall in love. I hope to pick this up asap.
Are any of your favorite authors on this list? Have your read any of these books? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I also really want to read Crescent City. I’m a little embarrassed by how much I love Maas’s books and I’m also kind of terrified as to how intense this book will be since she has an adult label on it. Also Skyward and Daisy Jones and the Six are two of my favorites!

I am reading Verity next month for book club. I didn’t enjoy my first Colleen Hoover novel as much so I am hoping to have some luck with this one.
