Happy first full week of May!
Readathons
Here are some readathons happening this week/month if you’re looking for one to participate in!
1. ScallywagAThon: May 5 – 12
This is hosted by Hardback Hoarder and Paper Faerie and this round is Space Pirate themed. There is a super fun map to follow for your challenges which you can find here on their twitter page!
New Releases
1. Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins
This is a queer royalty romance between two roommates at a Scottish boarding school. I had no interest in this series but this sequel and cover change totally sucked me in.
2. How it Feels to Float by Helena Fox
This sounds like an intense YA, contemporary following Biz as she struggles with mental illness and the loss of her father.
3. Top Secret by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy
This is a new adult, M/M romance from the same authors who wrote the Him duology. This is one is about 2 frat brothers who fall in love. I absolutely love these authors so I can’t wait to pick this up!
Reading Update + TBR!
Recently Finished
1. Walking to Aldebaran by Adrian Tchaikovsky ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I received an arc of this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is science fiction novella about a astronaut who is lost inside an alien artifact beyond Pluto. This is one of the strangest books I’ve ever read. There were parts of this I really enjoyed but other parts were quite confusing. Overall I felt pretty middle of the road about this one.
2. Can’t Text This (Text #3) by Teagan Hunter ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
I can’t get over how much I love this series. This book in particular follows Rob, the roommate of main male character from book 1, and Monty, the new girl in town. This series never ceases to make me laugh out loud. Teagan Hunter writes some of my favorite humorous banter.
3. Ruckus (Sinners of Saint #2) by L.J. Shen ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This series is a bully/bad boy romance series following 4 male best friends who call themselves the HotHoles. This book follows Dean and Rosie, the sister of the main female character from book 1. And holy cow I loved this book. I think I may even like this one more than Vicious. I absolutely loved Dean.
Currently Reading
1. Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson (E-arc/Netgalley)
I just got an arc of this from Netgalley and need to read it asap! I’m so excited about this YA fantasy about Elisabeth who grew up in the Great Library and dreams of becoming one of it’s wardens. Now the library is in danger and Elisabeth is determined to protect it. I can’t wait to read this!!
2. Inspection by Josh Malerman (Physical/Library)
I requested this from the library and when I picked it up I found out it’s only a 7 day rental. So now this just got bumped up on my TBR. This is horror/thriller about 2 prestigious schools – one all girls and one all boys – who do not know the other exists. Boarding school settings are a total buzzword for me. I’m really excited for this one.
What’s Next
1. The Beau & the Belle by R.S. Grey (Audiobook/Hoopla)
R.S. Grey’s new adult romances make for the perfect quick audiobooks. This is an age-gap, second chance-y, romance. I don’t know much more about this plot, but I’m looking forward to starting this.
2. Revelry by Kandi Steiner (Ebook/Kindle Unlimited)
I absolutely LOVED the What He Doesn’t Know duology/trilogy. But I haven’t read any of Kandi’s other books. I’m expecting this to simultaneously break me and make me swoon (in true Steiner fashion). This is a contemporary romance about a newly divorced woman who moves to the mountains outside of Seattle. Her new neighbor is brooding man with his own demons. I. Can’t. Wait.
What are your reading plans for the week??
