My Thoughts

Oh man I don’t even know how to review this book. I’ve been putting it off because I don’t know how to eloquently convey my feelings of this amazing book.

I loved every amazing word in here

Part 1 is definitely a bit of a challenge. This world, political system, caste system, etc are extensive to say the least. And I was definitely a little overwhelmed for the first 100 pages or so. But I wrote things down and once it clicked I flew through all 800+ pages.

I really loved the friendships in this. This book really explored friendships and how deep those bonds can run. I love an amazing, strong female character and this book had them in spades. I loved watching these women who were so different, support each other through it all. I also loved the exploration of grief and the toll it can take on a person and their relationships. There were so many dark moments that really hit hard and had my heart breaking for these characters.

This book also had the morally grey elements I love. Other than one (*cough* Sabine *cough*) this book did a really amazing job of showing both sides to each character. They were all flawed and multidimensional rather than blatantly good or evil.

This slow burn romance nearly did me in. I was ready to combust by the time these 2 finally got together! I loved their banter and chemistry. I’ve read quite a few reviews from people saying they weren’t buying into it, but I was 100% here 👏 for 👏 it.

But those last 250-300 pages… Holy shit. I have never read anything so action packed. That last third was filled to the brim and I couldn’t have put the book down for anything. I laughed, I cried – a lot. parts of that ending killed me – I felt the full gambit of emotions. This is one of those books you finish and immediately want to turn over an start again. I have absolutely no idea how I’m going to wait for book 2 – I’m ready to be broken.
