Trope Trial: Second Chance Romance

Trope Trail round 3 ♥

HotAndHammered

This round of Trope Trial is all about second chance romances!

This isn’t a trope I consider a favorite, so I was really surprised when I realized how many I’ve read and enjoyed. So apparently it should be added to my list favorites.

I actually have 7 books versus the normal 5 for this list!

1. All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

AllYourPerfects

I was on the fence about including this one on this list. This follows a couple who’s relationship is on the rocks due to some really difficult things they’ve had to endure. I’m classifying this as a “second chance” because while the couple never technically splits, they are having significant martial difficulties that the work through throughout this. If you love Colleen Hoover and really (really) hard-hitting contemporary romance, please check this out. It’s not only a beautiful story but it discusses a really important topic that is close to my own heart.

2. Text Me Baby One More Time (Text #4) by Teagan Hunter ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

TextMeBabyOneMoreTime

This is one of my favorite books from this entire series. Not only is this a great second chance romance, but it’s a “villain” redemption ARC. This follows the brother of the H from book 1 as he rekindles a relationship. I personally love a good redemption arc and this one was SO well done. Originally, I was not looking forward to this book at all because I hated this character so much, but by the end I completely adored him and Denver.

3. The Bromance Book Club (Bromance Book Club #1) by Lyssa Kay Adams⭐⭐⭐⭐

BromanceBookClub

One of the best second chance romances I’ve ever read! This follows baseball star Gavin whose wife, Thea has recently asked for a divorce. To win her back, he joins the Bromance Book Club, a book club made up of Nashville’s more elite men. They read romance novels of all genres in an effort to better understand women. This book is so cute, laugh out loud funny, and steamy AF. I love this group of men and their book club.

4. Intercepted (Playbook #1) by Alexa Martin ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Intercepted

This is another sports romance! This follows a Marlee, a football girlfriend, who discovers her long (long) time boyfriend has been cheating on her. To make matters worse, the mysterious man she had a one night stand with years ago is the new quarterback on her ex’s team.

5. Love Her or Lose Her (Hot and Hammered #2) by Tessa Bailey ⭐⭐⭐.5

LoveHerLoseHer

Even though this wasn’t a new all time favorite, I still absolutely adore this series. This follows Rosie and Dominic whose marriage has been struggling since he returned from serving overseas. When Rosie asks Dominic for a divorce and moves out he vows to do whatever it takes to win her back. Even marriage counseling with a strange, ultra free-spirited therapist.

6. Say You Still Love Me by K.A. Tucker ⭐⭐⭐.5

SayYouStillLoveMe

This is another one I enjoyed but won’t be making a list of new favorites. This was my second K.A. Tucker books and I absolutely love the settings she creates. This follows 2 timelines, in the past when the MCs are teenagers at summer camp, and the present day when the hero suddenly reappears at the heroine’s work after years of silence.

7. Twice in a Blue Moon by Christina Lauren ⭐⭐⭐

TwiceInABlueMoon

This one was definitely my least favorite of the list but I did’t dislike this nearly as much as some other readers seemed too. This book is also told in 2 timelines. The first half of this book is set in the past when the main characters meet on trip abroad. The hero betrays the heroine and reveals her identity to the press, setting her life down a path she never imagined. Now years later, she’s a huge movie star, filming her first movie with her ultra famous father. Only to discover that the writer of this amazing movie is none other than the man who betrayed her all those years ago.

I don’t know who to recommend this to since so many people absolutely hated this book. But if you like film settings, second chance romances, and Christina Lauren’s signature cheesy rom-com plots, I think this might work for you!

Have you read any of these books? What were your thoughts??
