I read a TON of Paranormal Romance!
I burnt out of book reviews! I review almost every single one of the nearly 200 books I read this year. And quite honestly I’m over it 😅 It’s so much work!
So I’m stepping back for a bit and instead I’ll be doing more of these mini reviews. Where I just briefly talk about how I felt rather than an in depth discussion.
Sanctuary by Alexandria House
This was a novella that I found recommend on Goodreads (I think?). And it was fine. It was a unique twist on fated mates and we love to see diverse representation in PNR! But it’s not something that’s going to stay with me. I’m honestly already forgetting everything about it… It was great for a readathon though because I was able to read the entire thing in about an hour and check off some challenges.
The Hades Trials trilogy by Eliza Raine & Rose Wilson
The Power of Hades was the group book for the PNR Readathon a couple weeks back and I decided to binge the entire trilogy.
The is a Hades and Persephone retelling that revolved around a series of trials. It was a really fun, quick fantasy series but I enjoyed the plot/premise way more than the romance itself.
Persephone is a mortal who has no memories of the Underworld. So when she is brought back to compete to be Hades wife, she’s completely blindsided. This series follows her journey through the trials, discovering her powers, and learning about the past she doesn’t remember. As well as a steamy romance with Hades!
While this wasn’t my favorite series ever, it definitely scratched the Hades and Persephone itch that I had! We need more H&P retellings!
Restless Slumber (Fortuna Sworn #2) by K.J. Sutton
What a wild ride!! I’ll try and avoid spoilers but if you haven’t read Fortuna Sworn yet I’d recommend checking out that review rather than this one!
I was a little underwhelmed by book 1 but Restless Slumber definitely dialed things up a notch! This picks up directly after Fortuna Sworn and the aftermath of her trials. I can’t go too much into the plot without spoiling some of book 1, but the stakes definitely increase.
I love all the grey morality and twists throughout this story. And the romance. Love. It. I still think this series is no where near as steamy as everyone made it out to be (and way less so than most PNR I read) but I’m obsessed with the relationships. (Mild spoiler but I’m crossing all my fingers that this romance turns poly)
And that ending… what even?! I need book 3 yesterday.
Archangel’s Storm (Guild Hunter #5) by Nalini Singh
I finally continued with this series!! I swear this next book has been on half of my 2020 TBRs but it finally happened. And now I’m obsessed all over again and have already picked up book 6.
Again, this is book 5 in a series so it’s hard to talk about without giving away mild spoilers so check out my review for Angels Kiss (book 1) if you’re interested in this series!
This book revolves around Jason, who is one of Raphael’s Seven, and his romance with niece of another Archangel. This book really opened up the world and I love that we got to spend time in a different court. One of my issues with this series has been keeping the complex world straight so I loved that we got a glimpse into some of the other court and characters.
This also really started to set up the larger overarching plot/conflict and I’m so excited about where this massive series is going. The stakes are definitely getting way higher!!
Overall this was a great installment to a series I can’t get enough of.
