Overly Specific Book Recs: Text/Email/Letters

I 100% took this idea from Lala over at BooksandLala. So definitely check out her original series here!

Textual

I love books revolving around communication via text, email, letters, etc. Whether the entire story is told in this format, or it’s just the primary way the characters communicate. Here are some of favorites!

1. Let’s Get Textual by Teagan Hunter

Textual

The main characters in this spend a large portion of this communicating via text message. They “meet” through a wrong number and don’t meet face to face until about half way through the book. This is one of my favorite romance series! It’s laugh out loud funny and crazy steamy.

2. Evidence of the Affair by Taylor Jenkins Reid

EvidenceOfTheAffair

This is a novella told via letters. The two main characters discover their spouses are having an affair with each other and through the letters they share their thoughts and feelings. I read this entire thing in a single sitting and was completely obsessed. Even in this format, I connected so much with these characters.

3. We Contain Multitudes by Sarah Henstra

ContainMultitudes

This story is told entire in letter format as well. The 2 main characters start writing letters as a high school english assignment but it quickly grows beyond that. This book is difficult and hard-hitting. And I absolutely loved the format choice.

4. Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel

SleepingGiants

This is a science fiction story told entire in interview format. Parts of a mysterious alien machine have been found across the plant and you are slowly discovering what it is and how they discovered it. This format builds so much suspense and I couldn’t read this fast enough!

5. Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertelli

Simon

The main character in this communicates with the anonymous love interest entirely via email. They slowly get to know each other and share secrets through their emails. This is YA novel is really sweet, and funny. And if you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend the audiobook!

What are some of your favorite books told via text, emails, etc??

  2. Let’s Get Textual is hilarious! I enjoyed that entire series on audio. Earlier this year I read Technically, You Started It by Lana Wood Johnson which was told entirely through text messages. It was very cute!
