Last week was the backlist readathon! Here’s how it went…
The backlist readathon was created by and is hosted by a whole slew of Booktubers! Here’s a link to one of the announcement videos if you’re interested in learning more. The gist of it is:
- Read backlist titles (the hosts defined it as any book released before 2020 but I’m reading books still in publication that aren’t the author’s latest release)
- The readathon runs from March 9th – March 15th
- There are 6 reading challenges
My original TBR …. didn’t happen 😅 While I usually enjoy sticking to a schedule/list, I got fell into a huge SJM binge after House of Earth and Blood and just couldn’t stop. Then I got into this weird mood where I just wanted to read all the books all at once. So everything fell apart real fast.
Here’s what I ended up reading for each challenge though!
1. Shortest Title: Angels’ Dance by Nalini Singh
This might be cheating but I read one of the novellas in this bind up this week. So I’m counting that for this challenge. This was a prequel novella following one of the side characters from the Guild Hunter series. It was interesting but nothing mind-blowing.
2. Intimidates You: Escaping From Houdini (Hunting Prince Dracula #3) by Kerri Maniscalco – Currently Reading
So funny story… I tried picking this book up on Thursday evening and got to page 3 before I went – wait… what happened in book 2? So I had to go back and read the Epilogue from Hunting Prince Dracula because I totally forgot all of it 😅 I’m about 1/4 of the way in and I’m obsessed all over again. Thomas Creswell for life ♥
3. Recommended by Someone Else: Well of Ascension (Mistborn #2) by Brandon Sanderson – Currently Reading
My coworker has been begging me to pick this series back up so that we can discuss it but I just haven’t gotten around to it. I’m buddy reading this through the month so I’m only about 10 chapters in, but I’m counting it for this challenge anyways.
4. Most Excited For: The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden – Currently Reading
I’ve loved being back in this beautiful, atmospheric world. Right now I’m about a quarter of the way through this and I’m so intrigued to see where this story goes. I honestly know nothing about the plot of this or the following book so I’m just going along for the journey.
5. Diverse
It might be a bit of a stretch, but I’m counting this since it’s a Russian folklore inspired novel. I know literally nothing about Russian history, so it’s definitely diverse for me.
6. Blue on Cover: A Court of Mist and Fury ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Revisiting this world/book was everything. I’m so glad I decided to reread this because it was even better the second time around. I love absolutely everything about this book and this romance is *chefs kiss*
Bonus:
Not So Nice Guy by R.S. Grey ⭐️⭐️.5
A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas – Currently Listening
I also listened/am listening to these two books on audio throughout the week. I don’t know why but my reading has been so scattered and I’m in the middle of about 8 books right now. I just want to read everything all at once lately.
Unfortunately Not So Nice Guy was a bit of a flop. Which was SO disappointing since I absolutely loved the first half. But the resolution happened so quickly and the last 3 hours of the audiobook were wholly without conflict and just about the MCs marriage and HEA… boring.
But at least I’m loving my reread of ACOWAR!
Are you participating in this readathon?? Let me know what you’re planning to read!
