My Thoughts

Oh my god Nalini Singh never ceases to blow me away. Her paranormal romances are peak for me. I could not get enough of this book and never wanted to put this down. I absolutely flew through this first book and am really glad I have 18 more books I can binge, because that’s what I desperately want to do.

One of my favorite things about Nalini Singh’s books, and this was definitely apparent in here, is her seamless world building. I never feel overwhelmed by info dumping because she expertly weaves information about the world throughout the book. This magic/hierarchal system is really intricate and could easily have become confusing or difficult to keep straight. But I never even noticed the world building happening.

I also love the balance between the crime/mystery plot line and the romance plot. Both story arcs were so strong on their own, so putting them together made for such an engaging and unputdownable book. I was invested in not only the plot but each and every character in here.

The romance was so slow burn and tension filled. I was desperate for these two to get together by the end. I love a good alpha hero, fated mates romance so this just did everything for me.

I have have no idea who the subsequent books follow, but I don’t care and want to read them all right now. If you love paranormal, urban fantasy, romance and you’ve been sleeping on this series like I have, please pick this up immediately!
