1. Daring and the Duke (The Bareknuckle Bastards #3) by Sarah MacLean ⭐⭐⭐.5

This was the conclusion to the Bareknuckle Bastards series and I’m so sad to see this series end! I absolutely adored this historical romance series and this was a really satisfying conclusion overall! There were a couple little things that kept this from a higher rating but mostly the pacing of this book was just a little too slow for me.

2. Head Over Heels by Hannah Orenstein ⭐⭐⭐.5

I had such conflicting feelings about this book! On one hand I really liked this for what it was. However, this was advertised as a romcom and that’s not at all what I got. This is an adult contemporary about the physical and mental trauma that Olympic level athletes (particularly gymnasts) face. It was a wonderful, hard-hitting story! But neither romantic nor comedic…

3. Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust ⭐⭐⭐

Sadly this one was a bit of a disappointment… I still enjoyed this book, but I thought it was going to be a new favorite. And it definitely wasn’t that. The tl;dr is I felt like this book took on more than it could handle. This concept was fantastic! But in execution too many things were rushed and brushed over – especially the relationships! This book is seeped in insta-love. And because of that nothing really felt high stacks.

4. Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Then I immediately followed it up with a new all-time favorite! Holy cow did this book blow me away! I saw this being compared to Red, White & Royal Blue (which was my favorite book of last year) and thought there was no way this could live up. I was so wrong!! This was everything I loved about that RWRB without the American politics plot. This was swoony, heartwarming, and laugh out loud funny! Can’t recommend enough!

5. The Return by Rachel Harrison ⭐

I’m not going to dwell on this one too much. But this book was a garbage fire that I wish I could unread. Hands down worst book of the year…

6. Burn Our Bodies Down by Rory Power ⭐⭐⭐.5

What a strange book! I love how weird and different Rory Power’s books are! This was definitely one of the most unique premises I’ve read this year. I loved the ominous vibes and mild horror aspects of this story. This book wasn’t outright scary but it definitely leaves you feeling uncomfortable. The pacing felt a little off through the middle – this story starts off with a bang but peters off through the middle before ending in a total whirlwind. Overall I thought it was a solid read though!

7. This Time Tomorrow (Phenomenal Fate #2) by Tessa Bailey ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I really loved this follow up to Tessa Bailey’s first paranormal, Reborn Yesterday. This sequel followed a vampire slayer and vampire we met in book 1. Everything about this was so angsty and wonderful. And the sexual tension was *chef’s kiss*

8. The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was the last book I finished to Becca’s Bookoplathon and it was AMAZING!! This just released last week and if you haven’t picked it up yet, please do! This book was so witchy and ominous and I loved every piece of it. Definitely a favorite of the year!!

9. The Sound of Stars by Alechia Daw ⭐⭐⭐

I listened to this on audio for the Brown Girl Bookclub and I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed it! Science fiction is really not my genre and I don’t often like heavy pop culture references. But this plot was engaging and the characters were really well developed. I did think this story was somewhat repetitive and predictable, but overall I had a good time reading it.

10. Mayhem by Estelle Laure ⭐⭐⭐

I still have so many conflicting feelings about this book… I thought for sure this would be a new favorite because it hit all of my buzzwords – feminist, slightly magical, gothic, spooky. But this book honestly felt all over the place. It didn’t seem to have a clear direction or focus and I was never quite sure what the point of this story was…

11. Dear Emmie Blue by Lia Louis ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This reading month brought me so many new favorites!! Including this one. I don’t think I’ll ever stop gushing about and recommending this book. I was hooked from the very beginning. This is one of those books I knew would be 5 stars from like page 3. I smiled, I hurt, I swooned, and I cried my damn eyes out. This book is criminally underrated. Please, please check it out!

12. Two Rogues Make a Right (Seducing the Sedgwicks #3) by Cat Sebastian ⭐⭐⭐.5

I finished a series!! I don’t even recognize myself anymore with how well I’m following through on series this year. This was such a fun and sweet historical romance series! I think book 1 will always be my favorite, but this conclusion was a close second! This story was just 2 cinnamon rolls loving each other and I was here for it. I also love how this author incorporates things not normally discussed in historicals – like bisexuality, asexuality, chronic illness, etc.

12. Daimon (Covenant #0.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout ⭐⭐⭐

I read this on a random whim during the Reading Rush. I needed an audiobook and I’ve been in the mood for fantasy romance. This was a super short prequel novella to the Covenant series. Not much happened in here… so I don’t have much to say. I’m intrigued to dive into this series though!

14. A Murderous Relation (Veronica Speedwell #5) by Deanna Raybourn ⭐⭐⭐.5

This was the first book I finished for the Reading Rush! I flipping adore this series and am actually pretty sad that I’m all caught up now. While it wasn’t my favorite book of the series, it was still a really fun read. And with the way this one ended, I’m insanely excited for the new release next year!!!

15. A Worthy Opponent (Wicked Villains #3) by Katee Robert ⭐⭐⭐

Another series continuation! Again, this one wasn’t my favorite of the series, but I swear Katee Robert can do no wrong. This series is just so fun and steamy. I loved this interpretation of Hook.

16. Crazy for Your Love (The Boys of Jackson Harbor #5) by Lexi Ryan ⭐⭐⭐.5

And while I was on my series kick, I decided why not go for one more! 😅 I only have one book left in this series and it’s been a good time. I absolutely loved the first book, but all the sequels have been 3-4 stars. This one had fake dating (awesome!) and a TON of drama (some of it good, some of it a little frustrating). But it also had an epilogue that I absolutely hated 😅

17. Half-Blood (Covenant #1) by Jennifer L Armentrout ⭐⭐⭐.5

So many 3 star reads this month… This was a really fun audiobook, albeit super predictable and kinda cheesy. This is a YA fantasy romance series that I’ve heard great things about. I can definitely see why, but it’s a little dated at this point. I’m still enjoying myself though, these books absolutely fly, so they’re perfect to listen to while I do other things around the house. I’m definitely planning to just binge this entire series.

18. Archangel’s Blade (Guild Hunter #4) by Nalini Singh ⭐⭐⭐

I was so excited to finally continue on with this series! Unfortunately this was also my least favorite of the series so far. Dimitri just isn’t my favorite character and I never really bought into the romance. It also got hella cheesy at the end!

19. Pure (Covenant #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I’m am completely and wholly addicted to this series! There’s something about it that just makes it so dang bingeable. I’ve already downloaded book 3 and plan to continue it immediately. This picked up right where book 1 left off and things have only gotten more dicey and twisted. I can’t wait to see where this series goes!
