Top Ten Tuesday: Unpopular Bookish Opinions

Hold onto your hats. Things are getting controversial today.

WhatHeDoesntKnow

Alright guys the usual disclaimer: These are my opinions. You are allowed to have different ones. Don’t attack anyone for their options.

1. I dog ear my books

I don’t care how much this annoys people. I like dog earring my pages. I like flipping back through a book and seeing where I stopped. And I love warn quality to the few books I’ve actually reread. Plus bookmarks are cumbersome and annoying. I will die on this hill.

2. I DNF’d the Six of Crows duology

The duology was so boring. I didn’t care about a single character and I was so sick of hearing about how badass Kaz was every 3 seconds.

3. I prefer Romance over Fantasy

Give. Me. All. The. Angst. And. Steaminess.

4. Romance is under appreciated and devalued in the book community

The book community as whole really seems to hate on romance. I don’t know if it’s just the cool thing to do now or what. But I’m so tired of hearing about how it’s poorly written and has no plot. You shouldn’t judge an entire genre you don’t actually read from.

5. I don’t like book boxes

I tried a couple book boxes but the truth is I hate surprises and nicknacks. So they are just not for me. The only subscription I plan to keep is BOTM because I get to choose my own books.

6. I prefer paperbacks over hardcover

I get the appeal of hardcover books but they are the worst to read. Give me a floppy paperback anyway.

7. I feel no shame in DNF-ing

I know DNF-ing a book is hard for a lot of people. But I will put down a book with no shame whenever I want. 5 pages? 18? 300? All the same to me. Life’s to short to read books you don’t like.

8. I don’t like to re-read books

Again this is a personal choice thing. I will do it on rare occasions but I can’t bring myself to reread books when my TBR is 230 books long.

9. I break the spines of my paperbacks before reading them

There are few things in life more satisfying than breaking a paperback spine 4 times before reading.

10. I don’t like deckled or sprayed edges

Yes they are pretty. They are also annoy AF when you have to turn the page.

What are some of your unpopular opinions?? Do we have any in common? 😅

  1. Oooh, we have some in common and some I totally disagree with, haha! I despise deckled edges too, but as much as I’m tempted to crack the spines of my paperbacks, I hate how it looks! I like to keep my books pristine, unless I buy them second-hand, in which case I don’t care… This is a great list!

  2. I love the way spines look perfect on my shelves but I find them really hard to read so I’m always in a bit of a conundrum! 😅 I agree with you that the romance genre – I generally don’t like reading romance often but that’s just because it’s not really my thing – that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of amazing worthwhile books in that genre! I think people can be quite snobby about it which is a shame! Great list!

  3. I swear my heart double flipped so many times reading this post because I feel the exact same! I like SoC but I don’t really get the hype around it, and hardcovers have always been too…stiff for me. I’m not a rereader either! So yes, this post was quite the experience.
