It’s time to clean up my TBR shelf…
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.
My Goodreads Want to Read shelf is currently clocking in at 520 books. So the goal today is to clean up this shelf and share 10 books that I’m no longer interested in reading.
After going through all 18 pages of my Want to Read shelf, I got it down to ….
*drum roll please*
433! So about 90 books removed! Go me 👏
Here are 10 of the books I removed and why.
1. The Game by Linsey Miller
I actually originally requested an arc of this book because the premise sounded so intriguing – who doesn’t love a deadly game?? But this has gotten nothing but bad/lukewarm reviews. And I don’t have time for that….
2. We Were Restless Things by Cole Nagmatsu
Another book I had an arc of but have decided to not read because of negative reviews… This cover and it’s magical plot totally had me hooked. But reviewers I really trust have said that this beastly book (it’s over 400 pages) is a massive flop. Again just don’t have time for books I don’t think I’ll love
3. The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver
I unhauled my BOTM copy of this ages ago but it’s finally off my Goodreads shelf. This contemporary turned out to be something way different than most readers were anticipating. And after reading/listening to reviews, this just isn’t for me.
4. In Five Years by Rebecca Serle
Another book marketed as romance but turned out to be… not romance. I don’t want to read something just for the sake of being sad. So no thank you.
5. The Unspoken Name by A.K. Larkwood
I was excited enough for this high fantasy to go out and buy a brand new hardcover copy…. But since buying it I’ve had no draw to pick it up and I’ve heard some pretty blah things. So it’s time for it to be unhauled.
6. Not the Girl You Marry by Andie J. Christopher
I think every romance readers was hyped when this book was announced. But I’ve heard so many polarizing things and I just don’t think this book is going to be for me.
7. The Wives by Tarryn Fisher
Do I even need to explain this one? In general I’ve decided Tarryn Fisher isn’t the author for me.
8. The Institute by Stephen King
I won’t be reading anything by this author. This premise sounded intriguing but… it’s just not going to work out between us.
9. The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary
Another author I removed from my TBR entirely. I don’t love the style choice for this book and I’m already particular about general fiction.
10. The Briar U series by Elle Kennedy
I hated The Chase with fiery passion. So this series is a no-go for me. I loved the Off-Campus series so we’re just going to amicably part ways here.
Alright hopefully I didn’t unintentionally hurt anyone’s feelings with this post… Your book preferences are totally valid! Regardless of whether or not they match mine.
Do you clean up your Goodreads shelves often? Or do you let them grow wild like I do?
I read In Five Years and it wasn’t what I was expecting at all. It’s definitely one to avoid if you’re not looking for a very sad book 😅

That’s what I’ve heard! Glad to hear my unhaul is justified haha

Great list! I’ve heard good things about The Flat Share, but I don’t think it’s one I’m interested in either.
